Why Counselling

We will all, at some point in our lives experience situations and emotions that we cannot make sense of. We may also experience a mixture of feelings which may include feeling lost, alone and confused, depressed and anxious, stressed, angry and frustrated or even fearful and terrified.

Turning to a counsellor for confidential support and advice about private worries or concerns can be the most helpful and reassuring option for someone to take. A counsellor offers you confidentiality, genuineness and unconditional acceptance and helps you to look at things more clearly - very often when you are in the middle of a situation or crisis, you 'can't see the wood for the trees' and someone without any agenda or involvement in the friends and family network can be invaluable

Deciding to discuss your problems with a counsellor doesn’t mean you’re unable to cope, it just enables you to learn about yourself and discover what the underlying issues may be that are preventing you from moving forward.

Contrary to what many people think, the role of a counsellor is not to give advice. Instead, you will  be helped to question the way you look at things, the way you behave or react to situations or people and also to develop new strategies for dealing with your situation. I do this by getting to know you, developing an understanding of your circumstances, listening to what you have to say and by offering support and insight.

Individuals think, feel and react in different ways and by intergrating different ways of helping I can help to you to bring about changes in your life, because each therapy is adapted to suit your individual needs. However counselling will not offer immediate fixes, but it will help you find a sense of direction enabling you to work through your problems.
